What is FinanceKit and how is it different from Plaid?

Understanding Apple FinanceKit vs Plaid for bank syncing on iOS

Two Ways to Connect Your Bank

On iOS, Spendify gives you two options for linking your financial accounts: Plaid and Apple FinanceKit. Both get the job done — here's how they compare.

Plaid

  • Works on both iOS and Android.

  • A trusted third-party service that securely connects to thousands of US banks, credit unions, and financial institutions.

  • You sign in to your bank through Plaid's secure portal — Spendify never sees your bank login credentials.

  • Transactions sync automatically in the background.

Apple FinanceKit

  • iOS only — not available on Android.

  • Apple's built-in framework that syncs financial data directly from your device.

  • No third party involved — your data stays between your device and Spendify.

  • Syncs when you open the app.

  • Availability depends on your bank's support for Apple's FinanceKit API.

Which Should I Choose?

If you're on Android, Plaid is your go-to — it's the only option and works great. If you're on iOS, it's your call:

  • Prefer no third party? Go with FinanceKit.

  • Want automatic background syncing? Go with Plaid.

  • You can even use both for different accounts — totally up to you.
