Common Reasons Your Bank Won't Connect
There are a few common reasons why a bank connection might fail. Here's what to check:
Bank not supported — While Spendify supports thousands of financial institutions through Plaid (and Apple FinanceKit on iOS), some smaller banks or credit unions may not be available yet.
Bank maintenance or outages — Banks occasionally perform scheduled maintenance that temporarily prevents third-party connections. This is usually resolved within a few hours.
Incorrect credentials — Double-check that you're entering the exact username and password you use to log into your bank's website or app.
Multi-factor authentication (MFA) issues — If your bank uses MFA (text codes, security questions, etc.), make sure you're completing the verification step during the connection process.
Bank requires updated security settings — Some banks require you to enable third-party access or update your MFA settings before connecting.
Troubleshooting Steps
Verify your bank login works — Try logging into your bank's website or app directly to make sure your credentials are correct and your account is in good standing.
Check for bank outages — Visit your bank's website or social media to see if they've reported any known issues.
Wait and try again — If your bank is undergoing maintenance, try connecting again in a few hours.
Update your MFA method — If your bank recently changed how they handle verification, log into your bank directly and update your security settings before trying to connect in Spendify.
Try Apple FinanceKit (iOS only) — If you're on an iPhone, you can try connecting through Apple FinanceKit as an alternative to Plaid.
